Deep summer and deep winter are the two seasons that cause people to flee temperate zones such as Kansas City. Right now it is hard to imagine the stultifying and aggravating heat of August, where every move results in a cascade of sweat and a peculiar kind of cabin fever takes hold from spending too much time inside with the air conditioner...
Remarkably, in Kansas City, MO we've just had the two killings since the new year started. Not that there hasn't been violence--some poor guy got shot in the genitals by his so-called girl friend for example (free advice: Dump that b*tch!)--but not so many fatalities.
Darn cold though. The winter cabin fever is not far off if this keeps up.

Makes me wonder how many MORE murders you'd have there...if these perps were better shots?
I see that here...lots of shootings, and few homicides to show for all those expended rounds.
Was a lot better when people used fists.

I am almost thankful that many of our shooters seem to be part of the gang that can't shoot straight.
The carnage would be much worse.
We also have to give kudos to our first class EMS system, which despite the turmoil in the ambulance system, continues to deliver first class care, from the responding firefighters to the EMTs and paramedics to the work that the trauma centers do. However, think how much health care money we would save if we could prevent the shootings in the first place, some how.

Yes, August. It's bad everywhere I have ever lived.
My condolences to the families and friends of Romar, Lance, John, Otis, Kenny, Ephriam, Evangel, Terence, and Denise.

Wish we could store temperature. We would love some of this cold air in August, and some of the heat now.
I wonder if the murder rate in the hottest month of Southern Hemisphere summer (March? February?) is high too.
