Steve Mumford is a watercolor and sketch artist who spent time in Iraq in the early 2000s. His water colors were on display in Kansas City back in 2007. In this sketch, a group of soldiers has just heard their comrade died. His work is very powerful--check him out.
I apologize for the reflections on the photo of the art work. There are some better views available on line.

A little inside baseball on how this entry came about:
1. Even tho it was late, I still wanted a Memorial Day post.
2. I put on my thinking cap and remembered I had taken pics of these watercolors when they were on display in KC. I found the photos in my computer..but I couldn't remember the name of the artist. I started the post anyway.
3. I decided to take a Google flyer and typed "Watercolor artist in Iraq" or some such in the search engine.
4. Steve Mumford's name popped up along with links and images. I recognized the name immediately as well as some of the images.
5. I completed the post.
And that's how it happened, folks!
